Cotacachi, Ecuador, is about 3000 miles from St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. I arrived in St. Louis on 11 May 2011 for my graduation at Pillsbury College and Seminary, and also to spend some time working at the college, recruiting new students and teaching.
Mary plays a dominant role in the religious lives of the people in Cotacachi, Ecuador!

At the commencement of three New Years, the years 2000, 2003 and 2007, I received the same Word from the same Scripture from the Lord. The message was clear. One day I would be called upon to support a Bible College. These calls came to me while I was still in South Africa involved in my ministry – Rest-a-While Cancer Ministries. Ten years and ten days later, on 10 January, 2011, in Ecuador, the Cotacachi Bible College was birthed!
Come on! We, the Gems of the Cotacachi Ladies’ Bible Class know that God speaks to His children from the Scriptures. How about you? Wow! Sapphire has almost finished her bread already. Each of my precious Gems has her own unique and precious characteristics. What treasures God gave me in C O T A C A C H I !!!! (of all places). Let me introduce each of these jewels to you. From left to right: An OPAL from Finland, SAPPHIRE, EMERALD AND RUBY – all mined in the U.S.A. Two of our Gems were not present today – AMETHYST and PEARL. We are seven Gems at present, with new Gems having arrived – just ready to be brought to the surface and polished in our Bible Class.

“Then He (Jesus) said to them, “Therefore, every scribe instructing concerning the Kingdom of Heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old”’” (Matthew 13:52) This is the Scripture that our Ladies’ Bible Class looked at today, and then in a practical way, we went and distributed Bibles to a selected group of Ecuadoreans.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)
My greatest love is for the Lord Jesus and His precious Word, for the simple reason that He loves me as much as He loves His very own Son. Today my Pastor pointed out this beautiful Scripture: “You . . . have loved them as You have loved Me.” (John 17:23)
Are you burdened today? Overburdened? Listen to the words of the Greatest Burden-Bearer:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
In Part 1 of my new series on the commencement of a Ladies’ Bible Class in Cotacachi, Ecuador, I introduced you to 4 Gemstones – a Ruby, an Emerald, a Sapphire and an Opal, and of course, I made mention first and foremost of the most precious Jewel there is, the “Pearl of Great Price” – Jesus! What a Jewel – beyond compare!
Great news! Cotacachi Bible Class was birthed on 13 January 2011. What a blessing! But most of all and above all, we praise God for the beginning of a great work – yet to come!
“For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see . . . They are the eyes of the Lord . . . .” (Zechariah 4:10)
For the next while, I will be taking snapshots of women found in the Bible – women who experienced the same problems as those that modern day women face. King Solomon, in Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 says these words: “That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new”? It has already been in ancient times before us”.
