Two Christian Churches in Cotacachi! What wonderful news! Looking closer you will see this.
One month after the “Amigos in Cristo” commenced their English Church Service, this little Church, previously a bilingual (Spanish and English) Church, reopened it’s doors to English-speaking people. So instead of going to Church every second week, we could alternate and we now enjoy the privilege of going to Church every week. What a blessing! What an answer to prayer! Two churches – not one!
Cezar is the Pastor. He has converted the lower floor of his house into a beautiful and well-equipped chapel – electronic equipment and a variety of musical instruments. Cezar spent a number of years in the U.S.A and his English is excellent. Not only is he the Pastor, but an accomplished musician as well, on the keyboard and his guitar.
Pastor Cezar goes to so much trouble with his sermon preparation, displaying his sermon notes on a screen which makes it so much easier to follow. Listening to the message in both Spanish and English is an added blessing, and in this way is a means of learning Biblical concepts in Spanish.
We are so blessed to have Diana to lead the Praise and Worship in English. On this particular occasion there was no electricity. Diana is at the keyboard every Sunday morning, using her talents given to her by the Lord – music and singing.
Communion is served every Sunday morning, and it is Pastor Cezar’s practice to invite different members of his congregation to participate in certain activities in the church. Here Fernando is leading the Communion Service. He is a very humble and dedicated man.
The majority of the Spanish-speaking people attend the late afternoon service, and almost every night of the week there is some activity taking place at the church. They have a Sunday School, Youth groups, Bible Study group, and a Prayer and Testimony service.
The people in his church are humble and very sincere in their walk with the Lord. The Word of God is a vital part of their Christian experience, where previously, before their conversion to Christianity, they did not possess a Bible.
The oldest member of the congregation is this precious little lady; obviously not wealthy and probably does not enjoy any luxuries. One thing that she has got, is Jesus living in her life. She is the lady that I mentioned in my first post. She used to walk miles, to worship the Lord on Sundays, until Cezar and his wife opened up their home for her to stay with them over week-ends.
Every Thursday night there is a bilingual Bible study.Once again, Cezar goes to a lot of trouble, translating the Spanish into English and in accommodating us with the lesson each in his own language.
On this particular occasion it was Cezar’s little girl, Becky’s birthday, as well as her aunt’s, who turned 17 years old. Do you find birthday celebrations in Ecuador different to the way you do? Cake icing here is unique.
Two gorgeous girls!
Ooooooops! What happened? It may be South America, but the people do have fun in the “Land of the Sun”!
