Animals! What can we learn from animals? How do we react when we meet up with people different from us? The calf is willing to get a little closer to this new ???? friend. One approaching, the other apprehensive. Who do you depict? The calf or the dog? You are looking for a friend, but the one you are approaching is retreating. You feel rejected and keep your distance. Or are you apprehensive of some stranger trying to step into your private space?
Our theme for this post is “Animals in Cotacachi”. Let me take you around to see a few of the animals found in and around this little town.
Dogs come in all sizes here in Cotacachi. Check how close this huge, shaggy dog is to the electric power lines. He lives on the third story of a building, on the terrace because there is no free space to roam. There is a shoe store below, and above that the owner’s residence, and giant pooch has the best views. Some dogs have friends . . . . (just check those eyes). He loves it! Previously “Dog and Duck”, but now just plain friends. No barriers.
Some don’t have friends. Whose territory is this anyway? Neither of them, they are both my friends.
Some are starved and are begging for food . . . .
Some are being fed, because they were starved ……………………………
Little Rusty always comes to me, when she is about to have her puppies. I keep her and her babies for 2 weeks. Six 6 weeks most of them die – if not all.
After her last delivery, Rusty developed an emergency, and almost lost her life. The only Veterinary Surgeon in the town came to the rescue. Two months later I had her sterilized. Yeah. . . no more puppies! No more suffering as a result of gross neglect by her owner, Rusty lost 4 of her babies – all of her last litter and 3 from the previous. We had to rescue these animals.
One sweet little kid! No, his name is not Billy!
He survived. His sister did not, neither did his baby daughter. Same diagnosis and prognosis – neglect and certain death.
Pigs love each other. Owners see two things – dollars and a pot!
Horse shows are a hit here in Cotacachi.
Others just adore animals!
“So the Lord God formed from the soil every kind of animal . . . . and brought them to the man….” (Genesis 2:19) “A good man is concerned for the welfare of his animals . . . (Proverbs 12:10) (References taken from The Living Bible)
